It was towards the end of lunch period that that Alex ambled into the dining hall. She'd been talking to one of the theatre teachers about audition opportunities this year for several hours. It had been an productive conversation and one she had been waiting to have since she arrived back at Versailles, but it had also been rather lengthy and she was tired and hungry.
She scanned the dining hall, hoping to find a familiar face, but was disappointed to see their was no one she knew well to engage in a conversation. Her gaze drifted toward a girl sitting by herself on the left side of the dining hall. Alex shifted her stance, torn. She wasn't a shy person, but the first few days back were usually pretty rickety and she preferred not to stray out of her familiar circle, at least until things cooled down.
But the alternative might be to sit alone. Besides, it was always fun to meet new people, and Alex wold feel guilty if she didn't at least try to make a conversation with her. She carefully made her way over to the table. The girl looked up at her approach, and Alex smiled and asked; "Mind if I sit here?

The nineteen year old stabbed at what appeared to be her lunch, although it didn’t look at all edible. From what she could see it looked like some form of vegetables and some fish, it definitely wasn’t appetizing. Lucinda had a few friends at the college but they weren’t close more like acquaintances, sure she knew a few people on her course but she didn’t go out of her way to speak to them and then there was her roommate who was okay but a little bit irritating and messy at times. After her lunch period she had her normal art lesson were her lecturer would take them through different skills and then they’d test them out on a piece of scrap paper.
A voice broke her trail of thoughts and she looked up from her dull food on her plate, Lucinda nodded and smiled. The girl looked much younger than herself and she was pretty lucky that Lucinda wasn’t in a bad mood otherwise she would of most likely told her to leave her alone and go sit with someone else, but she had a good day so far and she needed some company, “Sure,” She replied and gestured toward the sit next her and continued to play with her food.

Alex's smile returned as she gingerly sat down at her table and pulled out her take-out. She girl was older than she expected, several years older than Alex herself. She had dark hair and pale skin. Her features were-different, but pretty in her own little way. She noticed the unenthusiastic way the girl eyed her food, though who could blame her. The cafeteria food was usually pretty good, but the fish was-not.
"I'm Alex." she introduced herself, she took a dainty bite of her salad, when she was done, she looked up at the girl and said. "you look kind of familiar, did you come here last year?" She found it hard to believe she couldn't remember if she'd seen her last year or not, she had a face that Alex thought she'd remember.

Something Lucinda missed about being home was her mother’s homemade dinner, she’d make all the dinners from scratch and usually they were pretty good especially her Yorkshire puddings, they were definitely the best and she always enjoyed them. Lucinda ate some of her dinner and then placed her cutlery on the plate and pushed it away from her, yeah, it was definitely gross and she’d probably just stick to a sandwich at lunch or something. “I’m Lucinda, but you can call me Luc if you like,” She smiled slightly and looked around the dining room hall before glancing back at Alex, “Yeah, I was here last year.” She replied with a small smile.

Alex watched as the girl, luc, pushed her food away from her. Being the person she was she felt guilty about the food in front of her. She probably would have offered some of it to this person had she known her better. But under the present circumstances, she decided it would be more awkward and weird then it was worth.
When the girl replied that she had been here last year Alex frowned. That was probably why she recognized her, yet she didn't know her name or anything about her. She wondered where she might have seen her in the first place. "What's your major? she began, then changed her mind. "No wait, let me guess." She scrutinized the girls face for a moment, "music?" She asked, with an air that implied this was kind of a random guess.
If she was a music kid, it might explain where I've seen her, since I know a lot of the vocal students, with the musicals and all. Alex mused.

Most people would see a girl pushing away her dinner and assume she was either trying to lose weight, or had an eating disorder. Lucinda was quite healthy but even she didn’t enjoy the canteen food, some people did but she preferred home made meals, that was she knew exactly what had gone into them and she didn’t have to worry about any hair in her meal or foreign objects. There were a lot of people who didn’t like eating at all and would try everything to lose weight; in her eyes it was stupid. Why would you do that to yourself just to lose some weight? It was ridiculous and she’d always express her opinion on skinny girls.
The conversation turned to what major she did and insisted on guessing, which most likely wouldn’t end well. When she guessed music Luc frowned slightly and shook her head, “No, I’m studying art,” She replied and smiled slightly before looking at the girl trying figure out what she studied but she wasn’t going to guess what she studied, “What do you study?” She questioned.

When the luc said she'd studied art Alex merely nodded her head, though her shoulders slumped slightly. Well, it was worth a shot.she thought vaguely, though she never really thought she'd get it right anyway, she wasjust hoping her people reading skills were-better-than that. Of all the majors offered here, Art was the one she was least familiar with, probably because it was the only one she didn't come in contact with that often. Sure she'd met plenty of set designers, but she had a feeling there were significant differences between them and straight up artists.
Luc then asked her what her major was. "Theater." She replied promptly. She gazed across at luc, her mouth pressed into a thin line. Luc was being very polite, but Alex could tell she wasn't exactly thrilled about the conversation. I wonder if I'm annoying her? she mused, but there was nothing for it now. She was already here, so she might as well make the most of the it. She also found that she was giving in. She turned to her bag and pulled out a fruit cup. "You can have this if you want." she offered, trying to keep her voice casual.

Being an artist had its benefits, she was very creative and knew how to apply her feelings into her drawings and make people understand how she felt or what she was going through by them just examining her work and not even asking her. When Alex said she was a theatre student she nodded, she had never really had a lot to do with theatre, some of the art students would create the set for them but Lucinda felt she was far to advanced to paint a set for a play or whatever they did! Sure she enjoyed watching movies and television shows but that was hardly the same as plays or musicals! That was definitely something she didn’t like, watching people running around on stage singing, usually it bored her a lot.
When the younger girl offered her a fruit cup she cocked an eyebrow and looked back at her dull canteen food she had previously received earlier. The fruit definitely looked full of goodness and Lucinda was quite hungry now she had seen it, “If you don’t mind?” She asked with a small smile, it was nice that she was offering but Lucinda didn’t want to take her food off her.

"I don't." Alex replied reassuringly, passing the fruit cup over to luc. She paused for a second, but before an awkward silence could spread in she asked. "So art, are you a drawer, sculpturer, hairdresser...?" she trailed off, leaving the question's ending open.
She hoped she didn't sound like she was just making idle conversation, she really wanted to know more about Lucinda's 'inner artist.' She may have been a little snobby when it came to theater, because she very strictly believed it was the best art out there. But she learned to accept that not everyone felt that way, and that everyone had a different way of expressing themselves. She was deeply curious about each persons specific form of art because she believed it told more about that person than any words, in a lot of ways.
